Description:
Antique colour lithograph of the oil on canvas original painting by Richard Caton Woodville. The image depicts the famous courageous defeat of the Lancers of the 17th. Light Dragoons. Woodville was famous in his time for his accuracy recreating military engagements. News of the battle was also widely spread thanks to the famous poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson, a portion of which is displayed below the image. Printed by Henry Graves & Co, a very well-established printer and publisher with a Royal Warrant. Identical print has been auctioned off at the highly prestigious Bonhams Auction House in London.

Historic Relevance:
The Charge of the Light Brigade was a disastrous British cavalry attack during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War. On 25 October 1854, about 600 British light cavalrymen were mistakenly ordered to charge directly at well-defended Russian artillery. Due to miscommunication among commanders, they advanced into heavy fire, suffering severe casualties in a courageous but futile assault.
